Situated amongst the dunes and pineforest along the east coast of NewZealand’s North Island is a pair of gabledtimber sheds. The design references thetimber working sheds found in rural NewZealand. The buildings are situated tocreate an occupation against the duneedge that feels relaxed and timeless.Between them is set an outdoor fireand area for seating. To moderate light, air, view and privacy, the house is layered with sliding timbershutters. Together with the timbercladding and roof, the material will ageand silver over time – integrating thebuildings with the landscape.By using timber on the interior, itbrings together the building as a wholeand blurs in indoors and outdoors. The interior timber is oiled to providewarmth as a subtle counter to theexterior.
